This Weekend in Long Beach

The world’s top match racing skippers return to Long Beach April 30 to May 4, 2025, for the 60th Congressional Cup. This World Championship regatta presented by Long Beach Yacht Club is a premier event on the prestigious World Match Racing Tour.

International City Theatre presents A Feast from the East, a free family show that shares rich stories from Eastern and Pacific Rim cultures. Reservations are required for this one-hour performance at the Beverly O’Neill Theater.

The Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden on the campus of California State University, Long Beach will host a Children's Day Festival with activities and fun for kids and families.

Children's Day, Kodomo no hi, is celebrated each year in Japan on May 5. Traditionally, families decorate by hanging karp or koi fish streamers outside of houses to bring luck and good fortune to the children inside.

Kahakai Outrigger Canoe Club is hosting a day of outrigger sprint races for members of the 26 teams competing under the Southern California Outrigger Racing Association. SCORA will be holding keiki (kids) sprint racing and longer adult water change racing at Marine Stadium. The public is welcome to view the races, have some great food, listen to music, shop Hawaiian style merchandise and enjoy a day at the beach.

Catch 150 thrilling sumo matches featuring 60 top wrestlers from around the world at the US Sumo Open, North America’s largest sumo tournament. Enjoy live taiko drumming, Japanese food, drinks, and an action-packed celebration of culture and sport.
